Hero at Large (1980)

Hero at Large (1980) Genre: Comedy Starring:  John Ritter, Anne Archer Directed by:  Martin Davidson Scripy by:  AJ Carothers WHAT IS IT ABOUT? When a struggling actor beats a bunch of thugs while still wearing his superhero costume, he becomes a sensation and inspiration for the entire city of New York. WORTH WATCHING? Yes. It's surprisingly sweet. It's not a laugh-out-laud type of a comedy. I can't remember any laugs actually, but it's more like a feel-good type of the movie. You smile all the time, because you enjoy the story and because it's characters are very very likeable and you care about their life. The movie itself looks kind of old and cheap, as it is more like a 70s movie, than 80s movie really, and I guess it story wouln't do well if it was shot today. But since it was filmed BEFORE the whole superhero movie boom it actually does a pretty good job. The story itself is somewhat unbelievable, and I'm not sure if hero's relationship with the ...

Michael the Brave ( original title: Mihai Viteazul ) - 1971

Michael the Brave ( original title: Mihai Viteazul ) - 1971 Genre: war & history, drama, biographical Starring:  Amza Pellea Directed:  Sergiu Nicolaescu Original language:  Romanian WHAT IS IT ALL ABOUT? A biography of a famous wallachian ruler and military commander who managed to unite 3 different principalities from which todays Romania was formed and for years fought against the Turkish Empire as well as the Austrians and Poles. IS IT UNDERSTANDABLE FOR FOREIGN VIEWERS? Yes. I'd say so. Even though the movie is filmed in romanian language and takes place in South-Eastern Europe it's quite a universal story about a man with  a dream of his own kingdom and who has to fight with everyone around him. The opening sequences might be a little bit harder and would require a bit of historical knowledge as they throw a viewer directly into a complicated world of the past - vasalls, tributes, alliances and so on. WORTH WATCHING? No. The movie, although it's surprising...

The Magnificent Seven Ride (1972) aka The Magnificent Seven 4

Image
The Magnificent Seven Ride (1972) aka The Magnificent Seven 4 Genre:  western Director:  George McCowan Starring:  Lee Van Cleef, Stefanie Powers WHAT'S IT ALL ABOUT? A sheriff is forced to recruit a band of gunslingers to help defend a tiny american colony in Mexico which is being harrased by local bandits. WORTH WATCHING? NO Only if You are a die hard fan of  Lee Van Cleef  or/and  Stefanie Powers , then it's a flick for You. But if not, then don't bother. There is nothing really interesting to see, this picture adds absolutely nothing to the Magnificent Seven franchise, or to Western franchise in general. It lacks any kind of story, originality or characters that you would like to follow. It repeats what was already shown in western and Magnificent Seven franchise, and does it in a rather poor style. The only good thing is Lee Van Cleef, who's acting is quite ok, same with Stefanie. And, gosh, her beauty is stunning! But, it doesn't help much since their...
