The Magnificent Seven Ride (1972) aka The Magnificent Seven 4

The Magnificent Seven Ride (1972) aka The Magnificent Seven 4

Genre: western

Director: George McCowan

Starring: Lee Van Cleef, Stefanie Powers

WHAT'S IT ALL ABOUT?
A sheriff is forced to recruit a band of gunslingers to help defend a tiny american colony in Mexico which is being harrased by local bandits.

WORTH WATCHING?

NO

Only if You are a die hard fan of Lee Van Cleef or/and Stefanie Powers, then it's a flick for You.
But if not, then don't bother.

There is nothing really interesting to see, this picture adds absolutely nothing to the Magnificent Seven franchise, or to Western franchise in general.

It lacks any kind of story, originality or characters that you would like to follow. It repeats what was already shown in western and Magnificent Seven franchise, and does it in a rather poor style.
The only good thing is Lee Van Cleef, who's acting is quite ok, same with Stefanie. And, gosh, her beauty is stunning!

But, it doesn't help much since their characters are badly written, Lee's sudden change of moods are unacceptable for a smart viewer and the story is a bit weird, with some needless brutality.
And same with the rest of Seven. The are not "magnificent" at all, they luck any kind of face or character, well aside from the tall guy perhaps. Believe me, You gonna forget about them the moment the movie stops. Well, perhaps all You gonna remember will be their idiotic arguments about "who should lead the attack".

Plus, there's really no villain in this part.

Wait! Magnificent Seven without a villain?

Yeah, kind of.

The movie is supposed to be about a bunch of mexican bandits, nothing new, but they could easily make something nice from that idea. It's not a problem to copy what was already done before in the franchise, when the whole movie is a copy of a copy of a copy.

But no.

A large part of a movie has a different kind of villain, a simple boy from a town that was misjudged by the hero, which lead to all of the further, and more important, events, where we finally meet with the main black character.

But there's not much of them anyway.

It's more about TALKING about the bad guys, and how cruel they are.

Plus, there's nothing really exciting about the shooting scenes, they empty few guns, some people die, but that's it. There's no drama in it. And no fun.

Same with clothing, looks rather cheap and rushed.

Same with cinematography. As I said, the movie looks like a copy of a copy of a copy of western classics, and the picture itself has the same low quality.

Some people say that it looks more like a cheap tv movie or some series, and I have to agree.

It doesn't really deserve the right to be part of the Magnificent Seven franchise, or to be screened at the cinemas at all...
